Whether you are missing a single tooth or several, dental implants are a modern, reliable solution that can restore the natural look, feel, and function of your smile. Unlike traditional options like bridges or partial dentures, implants do not just replace what you see—they also replace the tooth root beneath the surface. This gives you a more stable, longer-lasting result that supports your overall oral health and confidence.

At Park Cities Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, our board-certified periodontists specialize in advanced implant techniques, including immediate implants, to help streamline your care and get you back to smiling sooner.

Why Choose Implants Over Bridges or Partials?

Dental implants offer several important benefits compared to conventional bridges or removable appliances:

They preserve your natural teeth.

Traditional bridges require the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to be shaved down to support the prosthetic. Implants are independent and do not rely on neighboring teeth, allowing you to maintain more of your natural smile.

They are stable and secure.

Removable partial dentures can shift while eating or speaking, may require periodic adjustments as your mouth changes, and can place stress on neighboring teeth. In contrast, implants are anchored independently directly into the jaw, so they feel and function like natural teeth.

They help prevent bone loss.

When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone begins to deteriorate over time. Implants stimulate the jawbone—just like a natural tooth root—helping to preserve your facial structure and long-term oral health.

They are easier to maintain.

Cleaning around a bridge can be more difficult than caring for a single implant, which you brush and floss just like your other teeth. With no metal clasps or cemented restorations, implants reduce the risk of decay on adjacent teeth.

What to Expect with a Dental Implant

Here is a general overview of what you can expect throughout the dental implant process:

Schedule an Appointment
1

Step 1: Consultation and Planning

We begin the process with a comprehensive exam and a 3D CBCT scan to evaluate your bone structure, gum health, and surrounding teeth. We will talk through your goals and collaborate closely with your general dentist or restorative specialist to create a personalized treatment plan.

2

Step 2: Implant Placement

The implant itself—a small biocompatible titanium post—is placed in your jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. We offer local anesthesia and sedation options to keep you comfortable throughout the appointment. If you are a candidate for an immediate implant, this may be completed on the same day as your tooth extraction.

3

Step 3: Healing and Integration

Over the next few months, your implant will naturally fuse with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. This forms a strong, permanent foundation for the final crown. In the meantime, we may provide a temporary tooth replacement so you can smile and function comfortably while your implant heals.

4

Step 4: Abutment and Final Crown

Once the implant is fully integrated, a small connector piece called an abutment is attached. Then your general dentist or prosthodontist will make an impression or digital scan to create your custom crown. This final restoration is designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth in both look and function.

Immediate Implants: Tooth Replacement Without the Wait

In select cases, we can place a dental implant at the same time as a tooth is extracted. This is known as an immediate implant, and it is often a great option when the surrounding bone and gum tissue are healthy and stable.

By placing the implant right after extraction, we can:

  • Reduce the number of surgical procedures
  • Preserve bone and gum contours
  • Shorten the total treatment time
  • Improve esthetic outcomes, especially in the front of the mouth

Your comfort and long-term success are always our top priorities, so we will thoroughly evaluate whether immediate placement is the right fit for you.

Dental implants are one of the most predictable and long-lasting solutions for tooth replacement available today. Whether you are replacing one tooth or several, we are here to guide you every step of the way—with expert care and a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
